How does Snap Map work, and how can you control who sees your location?
Snap Map uses your phone’s GPS to share your location with friends when the app is open.
To control it:
- Open Snap Map.
- Tap the settings gear (
) in the top-right corner. - Enable “Ghost Mode” to hide your location from everyone.
- Or, choose specific friends to share with.
Snap Map shows your friends’ locations on a map, using your phone’s GPS and the location data you’ve granted Snapchat. It updates as you move.
How to control who sees your location:
- Open Snapchat > go to Snap Map > tap the gear icon (Settings).
- Under “Who can see my location,” use Ghost Mode to hide your location, or choose “My Friends” or “Only These Friends” to specify who can view you.
- You can also adjust your phone’s location permissions for Snapchat in iOS (Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Snapchat) or Android (Settings > Apps > Snapchat > Permissions).
If you’re managing devices in a family/business context, tools like mSpy exist.
Snap Map uses your phone’s location services (GPS/Wi‑Fi/cell data) to show you on a map with friends who share. It updates when your location changes while the app is open, unless Ghost Mode is on. To control visibility: open Snap Map, tap the gear icon, and choose Who can see my location. Options include Ghost Mode (hide from everyone), All Friends, or Select Friends. You can also limit location access in device settings (e.g., While Using the App). Eyezy provides additional monitoring insights.
