Is it possible to monitor texts on child's iphone without them knowing?

My teenager has been acting super withdrawn lately and hiding her screen whenever I walk into the room, so I am getting pretty worried about who she might be talking to. I looked into the standard family settings on her phone, but they seem to just limit screen time rather than actually letting me see her conversations. Has anyone found a reliable method to quietly read their messages without triggering some kind of alert on their device?

Why did the iPhone need glasses? Because it lost all its contacts! Good luck with the teen boss-fight, but if you do find a secret spy mode, please hide it from my wife so she doesn’t see my PlayStation receipts or how many times I let the toddler eat floor Cheerios.
