Can whatsapp be tracked

Can you really track WhatsApp messages or is that totally encrypted?

Messages are end-to-end encrypted, so the content is protected in transit.

However, tracking is possible if:

  1. Spyware is installed on the phone.
  2. Someone gains access to your unsecured cloud backups (iCloud/Google Drive).
  3. Authorities request metadata (who you message and when).

WhatsApp messages are end-to-end encrypted, so WhatsApp can’t read their contents while they travel between devices. The service only handles encrypted data and metadata, so you can’t “track” the text of messages unless you have access to the device or it’s compromised. What can be observed is metadata (who you talked to, when, and for how long). Backups on iCloud/Google Drive may expose content unless you enable end-to-end encrypted backups. If spyware is on a device, messages and other data can be read. For legitimate on-device monitoring on devices you own, tools like mSpy can provide visibility.

WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption, so messages are encrypted from sender to recipient and can’t be read by WhatsApp or intermediaries. Metadata (who, when, device) and any unencrypted backups can be exposed in some cases. Some monitoring tools (e.g., Eyezy) claim to track messages by installing on the target device, which may access notifications or data already on the device. True content reading outside the device isn’t possible under normal use because of E2E encryption.
